ACF annouces milestone fashion event with the launch of the journey of couture exhibition in Jakarta

From the 18th to 22nd November, Ciputra Artpreneur Jakarta will present The Journey of Couture – a groundbreaking exhibition of the creativity and craftsmanship of couture from the most elite Asian and international designers. This marks a milestone collaboration between the Asian Couture Federation and Ciputra Artpreneur, which will also see a couture show from Sebastian Gunawan on the 19th November. Organised by Fide Fashion Weeks, this is the most significant couture event to take place in Indonesia.

THE JOURNEY OF COUTURE The Journey of Couture is a groundbreaking exhibition of the creativity and craftsmanship of couture from the most elite Asian and international designers. It features 100 couture pieces from the most talented designers demonstrating the artistry, creativity and finesse that are required in this highest form of fashion. The most extensive presentation of its kind in Asia, it has been carefully curated by French Couturiers Livia Stoianova and Yassen Samouilov of French couture house On Aura Tout Vu in Paris. The exhibition features several gowns worn by leading celebrities on the red carpet, as well as avant-garde and innovative creations representing the full span of creativity.

Highlights of the exhibition include an extensive showcase of leading Indonesian couturiers Sebastian Gunawan, and Tex Saverio which take centre stage with 20 and 7 iconic couture pieces respectively. Also representing Indonesian creative talent will be renowned accessories designer Rinaldy A. Yunardi with 5 of his exceptional pieces. As members of the Asian Couture Federation (ACF) they are also joined by a full representation of the other 17 member designers of the ACF, as well as 20 couture pieces from French couturier’s On Aura Tout Vu.

OFFICIAL EXHIBITION LAUNCH 18TH NOVEMBER To mark the opening of The Journey of Couture Exhibition, there will be a VIP preview evening on the 18th November. With an expected attendance of more than 300 guests, the exhibition will be previewed to a specially invited audience of VIP’s, fashion influencers, style icons and media. Following, the official ribbon cutting ceremony by the Executive Board of the Asian Couture Federation and senior management of Ciputra Artpreneur, guests will be given a special opportunity to tour the exhibition.

ACF AWARDS 18th NOVEMBER As part of The Journey of Couture Exhibition, the ACF will be hosting the ACF Awards on the evening of the 18th November for its Executive Board, Governors and Member Designers, as well as key fashion leaders in Jakarta, international key opinion leaders, and VIP’s. The ACF Awards is a celebration of the creativity and craftsmanship of couture and Asian Couture Federation member designers in particular. It also serves to recognise the world’s fashion leaders and influencers, through a number of ACF Awards, which will be presented over the course of evening. This will include recognising those individuals who have made a profound contribution to the mission of the ACF, through the Patron of the ACF Award, as well as those who have contributed significantly to the world of social media, styling and couture design.

SEBASTIAN GUNAWAN – ‘A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM’ As part of the celebration of the world’s leading couture talent, renowned Indonesian couturier and Asian Couturier Extraordinaire of the ACF, Sebastian Gunawan will present with Cristina Panarese a couture show on the evening of the 19th November at Ciputra Artpreneur. Featuring, 80 dresses from the first line of Sebastian Gunawan, it is the epitome of luxury and the defining silhouette of the elegant and enchanting woman. Inspired by the romantic works of William Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, the collection embodies romance, love, drama and the ethereal moment of daydreams through the creation of stunning cocktail dresses to formal evening gowns.

With an expected attendance of nearly 1000 people, the much-anticipated collection is set to inspire, enthrall and overwhelm the guests. The show also underscores Sebastian Gunawan’s commitment to charitable and philanthropic causes, with proceeds from the evening going to support Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB). The partnership between YCAB and Sebastian Gunawan goes back to 2005 with several charity fashion shows with various themes: Classic Divine (2005), Rendezvouz (2006), Sweet and Swinging (2007), Femme Fatale (2010), and The Reflections of You (2011). Through his generosity, YCAB has raised up to Rp 2.3 billion since 2005, and has educated more than 1,200 underprivileged children.

SEBASTIAN GUNAWAN Sebastian Gunawan is an Indonesian-born fashion designer. His passion for fashion started in the early age of 14 in forms of hand sketches and drawings. Sebastian then further formalized his fashion interest through formal education in Susan Budiharjo Institute of Mode Jakarta Indonesia, The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Los Angeles, USA and Institute Artistico Dell Abbigliamento in Marangoni, Milan, Italy before returning home to embark on his professional fashion journey.

Sebastian first entered Indonesia’s fashion industry in 1993 with his own fashion house. Within the next decade, he took the Indonesian fashion industry by storm, further introducing design labels such as the made-to-order “Sebastian Gunawan,” ready-to-wear “Sebastian Red,” second-line “VOTUM,” and bridal collection “Sebastian Sposa.” Sebastian’s creativity was recognized internationally when he received the First Award at the “International Apparel Federation World Young Designer Award 2004″ in Barcelona, Spain. A year later he was invited to show his collection at “Moda in 3D” in Rome.

He was named the top fashion designer in Indonesia by the Jakarta Post, as well as receiving several awards including “Best Designer Award” by Indonesian Tatler, 2005, “International Apparel Federation World Young Designer Award,” Barcelona, Spain 2004, “Favorite Designer Award” by Dewi Magazine, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004.
