The glitz and the glamour – there is really nothing like the Met Ball. Arguably, the most important annual red carpet event, it has raised millions of dollars for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The star-studded event also marks the opening of Costume Institute’s annual exhibition. Each year, focuses on a different aspect of the fashion industry from designers to genres and has proven to be some of the most highly anticipated and attended in the world.
Beyond the celebrities, the Met Ball serves a crucial role in celebrating the creativity and vision of numerous designers. In this respect it has been a valuable platform for ACF Member Designers. The 2015, ‘China Through the Looking Glass’ inspired occasion proved a landmark moment for Asian Couturier Extraordinaire, Guo Pei. Her sumptuous yellow gown for Rihanna became a global sensation and her various creations formed a core component of the Met’s most successful exhibition to date.
This year, the exhibition is ‘Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garcons: Art of the In-Between’ and features Kawakubo’s designs for Comme des Garçons from 1981 to her latest collection. Not surprisingly, it proved to be another tour de force for the craft and the talent of our member designers who captured the media attention once again. American recording artist, dancer, actress and model Cassie Ventura wore an exquisite, custom-made gown, designed by the Creative Directors of COUTURíSSIMO and the ACF's International Couturiers Extraordinaire, On Aura Tout Vu. The additional sparkle for the lovely lady was created by our Accessories and Jewellery Member Designer, and exceptionally talented Rinaldy A. Yunardi.
