Songzio SS18 Show at London Fashion Week: Men's

It was an early morning call for the international fashion cognoscenti to attend SONGZIO’s Spring/Summer 2018 (SS18) ‘Crossing Veils’ collection at the latest menswear edition of London Fashion Week. Showcasing a series of looks inspired by the statement, ‘Man, in his night, searches for his own light,’ The Glass Pineapple said of the collection, ‘It perfectly represented what we have come to love about LFWM in recent years.’ 180 Strand provided a suitably spectacular location for a show deemed by Distract TV to be, ‘The one to watch,’ at this year’s London Fashion Week Men’s (LFWM).

SS18 collection builds on the acclaim SONGZIO received after the success of his LFWM Spring/Summer 2017 debut, when the ACF Governor was first invited to show in London by Dylan Jones (Editor-in-chief of British GQ and a Chairman of London Fashion Week: Men's ) and Frank Cintamani (Founding President of the Asian Couture Federation). SONGZIO returned to London again this year with a much-anticipated collection, expressed initially through the designer’s fine art (and this year also inspired by the portraiture of the Spanish master Velasquez). As Noctis informs us of SONGZIO’s art and design symbiosis, ‘His original canvas paintings are translated into fabric and worked into the fascinating line-up. There are his paintings of men cast on t-shirts, and paint trails are splashed over shirts; a fine combination of Song’s creative skills.’

The collection was bold, dramatic and finely balanced. Masculinity was released from its chrysalis of sombre confinement and revealed to be a butterfly- creative, vulnerable and unafraid of colour. Contrasting silhouettes were combined with expert tailoring, loose and youthful innerwear and straight-cut trousers. Fringe detailing and two pieces of SONGZIO footwear (which included sandals and derbys embellished with metal studs) all caught the attention of the audience eager for the designer’s signature flourishes. The colour palette included neutral whites, royal blues, oranges and yellows, expressed through bold vertical stripes, watercolour painting details and SONGZIO’s signature crossing strokes. All reconfirming British GQ’s description of the designer’s work as wearable art.’

WJ London summarised the SONGZIO SS18 ‘Crossing Veils’ perfectly by describing it as, ‘A range as unique as ever, it breaks the mould in more ways than one.’
