Rihanna wins the Met Gala 2015 red carpet in Guo Pei

For the inhabitants of the fashion world, the Met Ball is no doubt the highlight of the calendar year. This year’s theme, “China: Through the Looking Glass” saw an exhibition put together by The Costume Institute, exploring the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion.

On the Met Gala red carpet, everything came to a standstill when singer and style icon Rihanna stepped out in a custom corset by Agent Provocateur, wrapped around by a celestial embroidered yellow coat with a meter-long train by Asian Couturier Extraordinaire Madam Guo Pei— showcasing the pinnacle of Chinese design through a light of modernity.

Magnificent Gold, which currently takes up an entire room at the stately Metropolitan Museum of Art, was designed 12 years ago.
